Lithium-Ion Smart Charger Owner’s Manual
For Use with all Feather-Lite Batteries® Microprocessor Controlled Smart Lithium Automatic Chargers

Introduction:

Thank you for your purchase of one of our charging units. Below are some features of your unit, followed by some simple to use instruction and precautions to take followed by the warranty information.

FLB Chargers are a series of smart battery chargers designed to specifically work with our high-performance batteries and starter pack systems. These chargers are designed with an advanced microprocessor control circuit board paired with a high frequency MOSFET rectifier assembly unit to produce a battery charging unit that can charge your FLB unit safely and fast.

Customer Service:

Most sales or service issues should be resolved directly from the dealer in whom you purchased from. If your problem isn’t resolved, you are always welcome to call Feather-Lite Batteries® or email us @ info@feather-litebatteries.com

FEATURES OF YOUR FLB CHARGER-

Built in Fan Assembly:

This Smart Charger has a fully automatic built in cooling fan assembly. When the unit is charging your FLB unit the fan will automatically turn on, once the FLB unit is fully charged and the smart charger cuts off so will the fan assembly. This keeps all internal components at a safe operating temperature while in use.

Fully Computerized Charging Analysis & Shutdown:

This charger has an advanced micro processing unit that when a FLB unit is connected, it performs a complete analysis of the unit.  The unit’s voltage is measured every five minutes this allows the microprocessor to analyze a time lapse of data and optimize the charging process of the battery.  The FLB charger will not attempt to charge a unit that is at 4 volts or below (contact your retailer if this is the case), Furthermore if the charger has been on a constant charge cycle for ten hours and has not reached the correct charge voltage the unit will automatically shut down and the green light will not illuminate, also contact retailer if this occurs.

Charger Cables:

All FLB Charger cables are UL Approved and have soldered connection points for increased current flow. All FLB chargers come standard with an SB50 terminal end for easy convenient charging for all Motorsports batteries, SB175 terminal ends may be used for larger batteries and starter pack systems. Also available is an Optional battery connection accessory part number is FL-CCX12

Other Features of your Charger unit:

  • Universal Input 110/230VAC 50-60Hz

  • Isolated DC input from AC Output

  • Short Circuit, over-temperature, over voltage, and reverse polarity protections

  • Efficiency>85%

  • 100% Full load burn in test

  • Complete Advanced high frequency switching power supply system

Warnings & Important Safety Information:

This FLB Charger Produces low Direct Current (DC) VOLTAGE and High Current (DC) while charging your FLB unit

  1. This FLB Charger is designed to Charge a Specific Battery VOLTAGE Only! Use correct Voltage charger on each Specific Unit. If you are not 100% clear if the charger you have is correct for your FLB unit, please contact customer support before use.

  2. Improper Use of charger may result in personal injury, fire or property damage

  3. Do Not use this Charger on Lead Acid or AGM batteries.

  4. If you suspect any issue with your equipment. Disconnect + discontinue use immediately from AC power. Then disconnect from your battery or starter pack and contact your retailer. NEVER open the charger and attempt to access the circuit

  5. Do not use this Charger in an enclosed space where lead-acid batteries are contained, these batteries vent hydrogen gasses which when an ignition source like a spark from a charger can be explosive.

  6. Improper operation includes but not limited to listed below:

  • Precautions listed in this manual

  • Opening the charger’s aluminum case to access the circuit board

  • Placing the charger near open flame, combustible or flammable materials

  • Connecting the Charger to the incorrect AC power supply

  • Selecting the improper AC voltage input

  • Using this charger with a battery other than that which the charger was designed for.

  • Shock hazard present. Use caution to make sure you or the charger are not wet or in a liquid source.

  • Keep away from children.

  • Do not use charger when temperature is over 104 F (40 C)

A Few Precautions:

  • When the power is plugged in upon connecting to the battery you may hear something sounding like a spark this is normal

  • Do not disassemble charger to gain access to the inside of the charger, there are no serviceable items inside

  • The charger’s aluminum case is a heat-sink. During use do not place anything on top of the unit. This will reduce the effectiveness of the heatsink.  Allow at least 2 inches on all sides of free space.

  • Always use charger in a well-ventilated dry environment.

  • Do not charge any other type of battery with this charger, every type of battery uses a different charging alga rhythm. This charger is specific to FLB Lithium based chemistry and is not interchangeable.

  • Do not connect charger leads directly to any lines containing flammable fuels, carburetor’s, or body panels made from sheet metal or carbon-fiber.

When utilizing Charger, Feather-Lite suggests that the charger be directly plugged into an outlet when able. Use of an extension cord should be minimized to absolute necessary situations, when required make sure that the extension cord is adequate size. Undersized power cords will reduce charger efficiency.  When an extension cord is in use make sure to use a unit equipped with a grounded circuit for lengths up to 50’ no smaller than 16 AWG and for 100’ no smaller than 14 AWG, never exceed 100’ of extension cord.

Make sure that all cords are not pinched or jammed in doors, trunks, hoods, or by any other equipment.

When utilizing a generator for your AC power supply make sure the unit is equipped with a properly working voltage regulator to maximize consistent power input to the unit.

How to Use your Feather-Lite Lithium Phosphate Charger:

  1. Make sure your unit is on the correct input voltage option (110 or 230VAC)

  2. Plug unit into wall outlet LED 1 should be RED, LED 2 will appear GREEN.

  3. Plug DC voltage end (SB 175A or SB50A Connector) into your battery pack or battery charge port.

  4. Plug Charger into 110/230v wall outlet. (Units with on/off Switch can be plugged in as long as switch is in the off position before connecting battery)

  5. LED 2 should go from GREEN to RED. This indicates the battery is charging. (If Green light is ON and battery has been discharged unplug from all and check the fuses on the LED side.)

  6. Wait for LED 2 to turn back to GREEN, your battery is now charged & ready to use. (Typically takes 7-20 minutes depending on charger and battery combo)
